About the St. Andrews Arts Council
ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
The St. Andrews Arts Council, established in 1983 in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College/St. Andrews, is dedicated to enriching New Brunswick communities and providing educational and performance opportunities for local, national and international students of all ages and abilities by promoting and encouraging the creation, performance and appreciation of the arts through innovative, multi-disciplinary programs.EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
SUMMER SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
The Summer School offers performing arts courses, master classes and workshops in Opera, Voice, Choir, Drama, Dance, and Instrumental Music for students of all ages from beginner to professional.
THE NEW BRUNSWICK EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL (www.NEWBEMF.com)
This month long Festival held in June offers a unique musical experience focusing on combining college-level academic classes for credit through Millikin University (Decatur, IL) and non-credit workshops and courses through the St. Andrews Arts Council with pre-professional performing opportunities and significant community involvement with some of the best early music teachers and performers from Canada, the US and New Zealand.
INTERNATIONAL PIANO ACADEMY AND FESTIVAL
St. Andrews International Academy and Festival is devoted to creating an exciting musical environment by bringing in world-class musicians to perform and share their expertise. It offers in-depth and personalized musical experiences and educational opportunities for aspiring young artists as well as general music lovers. The Young Artist Program is selective, and open to conservatory-level pianists. Young Artist Program participants are eligible for the St. Andrews International Piano Concerto Competition. If you are passionate about music making, and seek to sharpen your performance skills, you may participate as an Active Observer. You have the opportunity to be instructed by faculty members and to attend all master classes, recitals, and special arts workshops. If you are interested in music, and want to expand your artistic horizon, you may participate as a General Observer which is open to all regardless of age, profession or musical background. You will have the opportunity to observe closely how professional musicians form and present their artistic ideas in the music-making process.
INTERNATIONAL GLOBAL STUDIES PROGRAM (IGS)
The International Global Studies Program (IGS) established in 2006 in collaboration with Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, offers for-college-credit immersion courses in the arts, sciences and education through University residencies in St. Andrews. The St. Andrews Arts Council works with each institutional partner to facilitate and coordinate program support services, facilities, adjunct professors, performance venues, accommodations and recreational activities. Students may audit courses through the St. Andrews Arts Council or enroll for college credit through participating Universities.
PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS
EMERGING ARTIST COMPETITIONS
St. Andrews International Aria Competition open to singers 20-30.St. Andrews International Piano Competition open for all ages and held in conjunction with the International Piano Academy and Festival program.
St. Andrews International Pas de Deux Competition open to dancers 14 and above.
Winners perform with the St. Andrews Chamber Orchestra at the Gala Festival Concert, held annually in August in St. Andrews, NB Canada. Past competition winners include Measha Brggergosman (Canada), Mai Washio (Japan), Eric Jurenas, (USA), Julien Le Blanc (Canada), Hando Nahkur (Estonia) and Hanbo Ma (China).
