Ludmila Knezkova-Hussey
Piano, Theory, CompositionLudmila began her piano studies at the age of 6 leaving her family and boarding at the elite Lvov Central Music School, Ukraine. She completed her post-graduate education at the famed Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and has studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the 20th century: Jakov Zak, Bernard Ringeissen, Detlef Kraus, Rolf-Dieter Arens and Gyorgy Sebok.
Principal soloist of the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra and the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic for 13 years, Ludmila has performed throughout Europe, Latin American, and North America with orchestras including L'Orchestre Symphonique de Montral, L'Orchestre de la Garde Rpublicaine" (Paris), the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Kammerorchester Frankfurt am Main, the Orchestra de Camera dell'Anglicum (Italy), the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish National Orchestra.
Dr. Knezkova-Hussey was selected by Maclean's magazine as one of 50 people who chose to make Canada their home and who have contributed greatly to this country. She was granted the World Order Science-Education-Culture (Belgium), the Paul Harris Fellow Award and the International Order of Merit, (England). She has received many awards from her adopted country, Canada, including an honorary doctorate from the University of New Brunswick and being named to the Order of New Brunswick, the Andr Thadde Bourque/Louise Manny Award for Excellence in Music and the 2001 Excellence Award for the Arts - for Community Cultural Development. Ludmila was also presented with Canada's Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and was profiled in the award winning documentary "Flying on the Moon - The Ludmila Story"(2003) which aired on CBC's "Opening Night" series.
Ludmila currently teaches at the University of New Brunswick/Saint John and at the St. Andrews Arts Council's Summer School for the Performing Arts. Dr. Knezkova-Hussey resides in Rothesay, NB with her husband and daughter.
